Carlton utility Jack Silvagni and Round 12 sub Paddy Dow have joined Zac Fisher on the Blues’ omissions list for Sunday night's blockbuster against Essendon.

After Fisher on Thursday night was dropped for a second time this season along with Lochie O’Brien, Silvagni on Friday was ‘omitted’, per the club, from the starting 22 after being subbed out with a hip injury in the Blues’ loss to Melbourne.

Dow, too, was left out of the Carlton's starting line-up, despite impressing in the second half against the Dees after replacing Silvagni.

One of Silvagni, Dow, Lachie Cowan or Lachie Fogarty will be the Blues’ sub on Friday night.

The Blues have regained Jack Martin for the first time since the opening round of the season, joining Marc Pittonet and Ed Curnow as the three inclusions.

Reigning Bombers best and fairest winner Peter Wright has been named to play his first game for Essendon this season, but Dylan Shiel will miss the King's Birthday eve clash with an ankle injury.

In Sunday's other game, the Giants have regained All-Australian defender Nick Haynes and dropped No. 1 pick Aaron Cadman, while Josh Fahey will start in the 22 after playing his first two games as the sub. North Melbourne has opted against re-calling Ben Cunnington despite losing midfield bulls Jy Simpkin and Hugh Greenwood to concussions.

Melbourne star Clayton Oliver has been ruled out of the side's blockbuster King's Birthday clash against Collingwood.

Oliver had been pushing for a return from a hamstring injury, but the gun midfielder was sent to hospital for treatment on an infected blister this week and will remain there until at least Sunday.

"He's definitely not playing," Dees coach Simon Goodwin said on Friday.

"He's still in hospital with an infected foot. It was pretty serious at the time, the infection, so he‘s had five days in hospital and he's probably not looking like he’ll be out until Sunday.

"We just need to make sure that this infection gets under control.

"It's all pretty positive … we’re pretty hopeful that once he gets through that period it’ll be a pretty fast transition back."

Collingwood will be without a midfield star of its own, with Jordan De Goey serving the first match of a three-match ban for rough conduct.

The teams for Melbourne v Collingwood will be announced on Sunday evening.

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has lost faith in his key defenders, despite claiming they weren't an issue, dropping two amid six total omissions for Friday night's blockbuster against Port Adelaide.

Ryan Gardner, often defended by Beveridge amid criticism, and Tim O’Brien are unforced omissions – along with Oskar Baker – with Alex Keath and Josh Bruce given chances in the back six instead.

Ed Richards goes out of the side through injury with Rhylee West and Laitham Vandermeer returning.

Opponents Port Adelaide have surprisingly omitted Ryan Burton and Riley Bonner along with young forward Ollie Lord, with Travis Boak and Charlie Dixon handy inclusions.

North Melbourne veteran Ben Cunnington has been named on an extended bench for North Melbourne. The Giants will welcome back Nick Haynes after an extended stint on the sidelines with concussion.

Richmond veteran Nick Vlastuin is back from a short injury lay-off for the clash against Fremantle with Hugo Ralphsmith making way.

Fremantle will welcome back small forward Liam Henry with Sean Darcy and Jaeger O’Meara missing for the Dockers through injury and suspension respectively.

West Coast has six forced omissions with mid-season draftee Ryan Maric making his AFL debut just days after being taken with the No. 1 pick.
