Gloucester extends tax due dates

The Gloucester Board of Supervisors unanimously voted at its meeting Tuesday to extend the due dates for the first installment of real estate and personal property tax payments from June 30 to July 15.

Real estate and personal property tax notices were mailed out earlier this month and Gloucester property owners are still receiving them.

Vice chairman Ashley Chriscoe said the recent mailing of notices paired with the values of property changing because of the recent reassessment meant that the month of June wouldn't be enough time for some to submit payments.

Also during the meeting, supervisors unanimously voted to include Monday, July 3, as a holiday along with Independence Day on the following day. Chriscoe said giving county employees an extra day for one of the most important holidays in the summer shows the board supports county employees and understands the importance of balance between work and family life.
