A US company that specialises in in product configuration and recommendation software has released a tool designed to streamline the process of choosing and configuring variable-speed drives (VSDs) – also known as VFDs (variable-frequency drives – and the components needed to create complete, compatible drive systems. The tool is based on a technology developed by Compatio AI called the Product eXpert Engine – a database that blends configurator logic, data, human expertise and predictive technologies. The platform allows users to make accurate, compatible product choices by tapping into decades of industry knowledge.

The new tool, called the VFD System Configurator Model, is aimed at industrial automation distributors and manufacturers. It does not configure or set up the drives’ operational parameters or application settings. Instead, it ensures that selected products work together seamlessly.

Compatio AI argues that choosing the right VSD and ensuring compatibility with other system components can be challenging. Its configurator model simplifies this task by guiding users through the selection process using accurate, real-time recommendations.

They are guided step-by-step to select the best-fit VSD and supporting components such as circuit protection devices (fuses or circuit breakers), line reactors, brake resistors and more. The result is a compatible system that meets the unique requirements of each application.

The company believes that its model will be a “game-changer” for industrial automation distributors. It empowers them to confidently configure and recommend complete VSD systems, whatever their technical knowledge. They can also prioritise in-stock items, cutting lead times. And, by reducing errors and increasing sales efficiency, the tool will enhance the customer experience, Compatio AI argues.
